Bue Salmon

Far out to sea in the west, on Bulandet, lies the land-based fish farm Bue Salmon. Aquaculture Innovation owns approximately 25% of the company, and it is a strategically important pilot project for us.

In the pilot, which consists of four vats, we can produce up to 1,400 tonnes. We have a licence at Bulandet to produce 5,500 tonnes, and to achieve this, the facility must be expanded. In addition, we are applying for a licence to produce 50,000 tonnes of salmon at the Lutelandet site.

At Bue Salmon, we use low-energy flow-through technology to extract clean, cold seawater directly from the sea. The water is taken from the depths and distributed in tanks on land. This ensures an even temperature and good water quality.

Bue Salmon placed the first smolt in the facility in May 2022. Partnerships have been established with fish farmers in the sea, and Bue Salmon has now delivered postsmolt to Mowi, Bremnes Seashore and Flokenes Fiskefarm.

The first food fish in Bue Salmon was harvested in April 2024. 90 tonnes of salmon had a superior share of 95 per cent. This was the first harvest, and the average slaughter weight was over 4 kilos after a 10-month production cycle. The results make us very optimistic and show that we are on the right track in terms of fish health, technology and profitability. The second harvest was carried out at the beginning of May, with the same good results.

"The pilot plant at Bulandet is very important, because this is the technology we plan to use in Helgeland Miljøfisk's plant at Toft. The fact that the plant performs so well means a lot for the further development of Bulandet and Lutelandet, but also for the land-based plant at Toft.
